Practical Spanish for travel to Spain
For a trip to Spain, learn a few flexible Spanish exchanges for transport, food, accommodation and asking for help. Practise understanding the reply as well as saying the question. A progressive course helps you adapt those phrases beyond the exact example you memorised.
Choose the situations that matter to your trip. A useful travel routine is small enough to rehearse before you leave and flexible enough to handle a different time, destination or order.
Prepare both sides of the exchange
After learning how to ask for a ticket, practise hearing a time or platform. After asking for the bill, practise understanding a question about payment. The second part is often what turns a memorised phrase into a useful exchange.
Keep a short personal list of the places, times and quantities you expect to say. Practise spelling a booking name and repeating a number clearly. Avoid making the list so long that you never return to it.
- Transport: ask where, when and which direction.
- Food: order, ask what something contains and check the bill.
- Accommodation: confirm a reservation or describe a simple problem.
- Getting help: ask for repetition, a written detail or directions.
Learn phrases you can change
Take “¿Dónde está la estación?” and replace the place with one you actually need. Then imagine the answer includes a turn, a distance or a landmark. Practise asking a short follow-up if you do not understand.
Use polite openings and endings, but spend most of your practice on the information you need to exchange. Listen, say the phrase and return to it later without reading it.
