Technical and study requirements

Minimum requirements

• A desktop or laptop computer; a mobile phone is suitable for reading and revision but does not replace a computer for programming and running tests.
• Current version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari with JavaScript and session cookies enabled.
• Stable HTTPS connection and accessible email for registration, recovery and security notices.
• A screen resolution of 1280 × 720 or higher is recommended for the IDE and campus; browser zoom is supported.
• A physical keyboard is needed for efficient programming and documentation.
• Sufficient free space for the JDK, Maven, IDE and downloadable projects.

Optional external software

The campus does not run Java or Spring Boot. Students install JDK 25 LTS and use Maven Wrapper on their own computers; IntelliJ IDEA and VS Code are options, rather than required brands.

Docker is optional. PostgreSQL can be installed locally without containers. GitHub and cloud services are also optional and may have their own terms or costs.

Account and authorised device

One browser or device may be active at a time. Self-service switching is limited, and the limit is displayed before confirming a purchase. Deleting cookies, using private browsing or switching profiles may require new authorisation.

Accessibility and support

Diagrams must have text descriptions, avoid relying on colour alone, support keyboard use and remain legible when zoomed. If an activity presents a barrier, contact support with the activity and assistive technology involved, without sending unnecessary medical data.
