CCNA labs: original topologies without relying on Packet Tracer

Do I need Packet Tracer for these CCNA labs?

No. KINTAVOR uses original topology specifications, its own controlled activities and evidence-based checks. Packet Tracer is a separate Cisco product subject to Cisco’s terms. It is not supplied, embedded or required by this course.

A lab is complete when its evidence matches the objective

For a small two-subnet scenario, define which hosts should communicate before considering commands. Record the addressing plan, the intended route and one test that should fail. This gives the lab a clear result to verify rather than a configuration to copy.

If a host cannot reach its destination, inspect the local settings and progressively narrow the fault. Record what changed and repeat the check. This example is a suggested reasoning exercise; it does not require a proprietary topology file. Consult Cisco’s terms before using its separate software.

• State the expected reachability and any deliberately blocked path.
• Capture the relevant output, not an entire device configuration containing secrets.
• Finish with the cause, correction and evidence that the result is stable.

Before using Packet Tracer: read Cisco's section 4.1

Section 4.1 of Cisco's Packet Tracer Software Offer Description, version 2.0, amended on 10 September 2025, limits use of the product and its documentation to certain purposes related to Cisco Networking Academy or other purposes approved by Cisco in writing.

KINTAVOR does not interpret that licence as authorisation to integrate Packet Tracer into this commercial course. It therefore does not supply or embed the programme, or redistribute installers, Cisco IOS images, .pkt/.pka/.pkz files, screenshots of its interface or Cisco documentation. Students who wish to use it must read the current terms, confirm that their use is permitted and download it only from the official channel.

What it means for a lab to be tool-agnostic

Practice is not defined as a sequence of clicks in an application. It is defined by the state students must build and the observable evidence that demonstrates it works.

• Technical objective and prior knowledge.
• Original logical topology in an accessible web format with an equivalent text description.
• Generic inventory of nodes, interfaces, links and required capabilities.
• Addressing plan and design constraints.
• Configuration tasks expressed as expected outcomes.
• Verification commands, normalised outputs and connectivity tests.
• Progressive hints, a rubric, a reasoned solution and a report template.

50 labs progressing from links to operations

The collection covers cabling and Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, CLI, switching, VLANs, trunks, inter-VLAN routing, STP/RSTP, EtherChannel, static routes, OSPF, DHCP, NAT, ACLs, management services, wireless, WAN, QoS, redundancy, automation and NOC operations.

At least twenty scenarios start with one or more deliberately introduced faults. The task does not reveal the cause: it provides symptoms, impact, recent changes and initial evidence. Students must narrow down the problem, correct it, validate the result and document it.

What can and cannot be marked automatically

The platform's own simulator can validate states defined within its controlled model. For an external tool, the platform provides a checklist and expected evidence but does not promise to read or automatically mark Packet Tracer files.

Portfolio evidence must exclude secrets, real business configurations and materials whose licences prohibit redistribution.
