Data analyst portfolio projects you can explain in an interview
Four complete business cases to demonstrate how you clean data, choose a model, calculate KPIs and communicate limitations and decisions.
- Sales
- Finance and marketing
- Logistics and transport
At a glance
A useful analyst portfolio explains a question, the data checks, the calculation and the decision the report supports. KINTAVOR includes four guided projects using synthetic sales, finance, marketing and logistics data. You build the deliverables and explain their limitations; the course does not promise employment.

Write a short brief before showing the dashboard: who would use it, which period it covers and whether money is shown in GBP. Identify the synthetic data explicitly. A clear explanation of a rejected assumption or a corrected join is often more informative than an extra visual.
If you later extend a personal project with public UK statistics, record the exact dataset, release date, units and reuse terms. The ONS retail-industry collection is an optional place to explore public context; ONS data is not bundled into these four course projects, and combining it with synthetic records does not make those records real.
- Show the question, data dictionary and validation checks
- Include selected queries and the reasoning behind measures
- State what the analysis cannot establish
Project 1: retail sales
You analyse sales, products, synthetic customers, sales representatives, targets and returns. Data quality issues require dates, categories, keys and signs to be normalised.
The result includes a star schema, sales and margin measures, an executive dashboard and returns analysis.
Projects 2 and 3: finance and marketing
Finance compares budget and actuals by cost centre, account and period. Marketing connects campaigns, channels, spend, leads, conversions and revenue.
CTR, conversion, CAC and ROAS use explicit denominators. Attribution is presented as a convention, not proof of causality.
Project 4: logistics and transport
Shipments, routes, vehicles, carriers, costs and incidents allow analysis of punctuality, OTIF, delays and cost per route.
Conflicting dates, duplicates and incomplete codes require data quality to be isolated before holding a supplier responsible.
Reproducible deliverables
Each project includes a brief, questions, CSV/XLSX, a dictionary, SQL, Power Query, a model, DAX, a wireframe, checkpoints, a rubric, a solution and an interview.
There are no fake PBIX files. The student builds the file in Desktop, and the campus validates checkpoints and verifiable criteria.

Frequently asked questions
Specific answers about this learning pathway.
Do they contain real people?
No. The data is original and synthetic.
Is a solution provided?
Yes: calculations, transformations, model, measures, wireframe and conclusions.
Does the campus mark PBIX files?
No. It validates checkpoints, answers and rubrics without promising automatic inspection.
Can I publish it?
Yes, using your own screenshots, explaining the synthetic data and respecting the licences.
Do the projects contain UK employer or customer data?
No. The four course projects use original synthetic data. You can explain a UK business scenario in your own presentation while clearly stating the dataset’s origin and assumptions.
